It’s easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled.

Photos of Talk to the Dallas County Cattlemen’s Association

Because this was a weekday talk, Richard started with the demonstration part. Ron Locke provided these four nice heifers, and Richard demonstrated how to “train” the cattle. Here the heifers are taking a break after their first few rounds of the pasture.

When Richard first walked into the field, this red heifer was the first to put her head up and act like she was not going to put up with this. After a couple of times around the field, you would never have known how she acted at the beginning. Richard asked the group which one they wanted him to sort out and drive away from the others. Of course, they wanted to see him drive that red heifer! And she drove nicely!

After the demonstration, Richard rested in the shade and went over what happened in the pasture.

Ron had a stock trailer all set up to the corral, and someone mentioned a loading demonstration. Richard sorted off the red and lighter heifers from the two blacks and walked them right through the alley and up into the trailer, where they stood and waited to see what they should do next!

Richard then presented more information on the value of Stockmanship and some key points to practice.

The Dallas County Cattlemen and Women cooked an excellent meal!

What a fun day!
