More on Understanding Relationships in Livestock Markets

In 2008, Bud and Eunice Williams traveled to Wyoming to work with a rancher who had quality angus cattle. In the process of doing their fall pregnancy testing, they found that 27% of their heifers were open. The owner was devastated.

However, Bud (who always knew the current prices and relationships!) told them the open heifers would sell for more than their bred counterparts! If you just “think about it,” it wouldn’t seem possible this could happen. But, at this time, in this location, it did happen!

You must always “do the math” so you, too, can understand the relationships and make your decisions based on facts, not speculation.
