A man has made at least a start on discovering the meaning of human life when he plants shade trees under which he knows full well he will never sit.

Some cattlemen ask us how they can get their cows to keep their calves with them when they move paddocks, how they can stop the cattle from tearing down fences when they move paddocks, and how they can quickly and quietly move from paddock to paddock. Good discipline is how to move! We don’t let the cattle tell us when or how to move. We tell them. They have learned to wait quietly while we decide when or how much to give them. They only move toward the new paddock when we signal it’s time. Then they collect their calves and walk to the new paddock. No need to go running back looking for their calves or for calves to run the fence looking for their mammas. Everyone is happily and quietly grazing together in the new paddock.
