February 20 through 23 trip to West Virginia

Friday, February 24th, 2006

The West Virginia University Extension puts on a series of “Dinner Meetings” through the winter where they invite a speaker to come speak four evenings for four years. This will reach every county in West Virginia with this certain topic.

We were invited to speak on Stockmanship and spoke at our first four meetings this February in Union County, Greenbrier County, Fayette/Nicolas County, and Jackson County.

I found the counties I visited, especially Jackson County, to be very much like the area here in SW Missouri with small farms on hilly ground not suitable for crops.

Although some of the attendees didn’t really know what “stockmanship” was about (some come for the free meal regardless of topic!), they all had an idea about it by the end of the evening.
