I learned that it is the weak who are cruel, and that gentleness is to be expected only from the strong.

Here we are just before presenting at the American Forage and Grassland Council conference in Springfield, Missouri.
After driving for four days and visiting some great spots like Mt. Rushmore and Independence Rock, we arrived in Logan, UT to begin the Fred Provenza Short Course at Utah State University. One of the main reasons we wanted to come was to visit with Bruce Maynard of “Stress Free Stockmanship” of Australia who is teaching stockmanship at the Course. We’ve corresponded for some time, and this was a great chance for us to visit as well as learn from Fred and the others here.

Here’s the group out at the Green Canyon facility where we are received instructions on the several experiments the students will be doing during the Course.

And here’s Bruce instructing the first group on basic stockmanship tools on a group of ewes.
We have just confirmed a one and a half day school in Nebraska on October 27-28, 2010. We are in the process of confirming the location, and will post that here as soon as we get it set. We will teach from 1 to 5 pm on Wednesday the 27th, have a dinner together, and then teach from 8 am to 5 pm on Thursday the 28th with lunch included.
Richard and I were lucky enough to attend another Bud Williams Stockmanship School, this time in Cheyenne, WY. Click here for information about the school. What a great group of people. As always, we continue to learn more and more about this very deep subject.
Then, after our school in Monticello, AR we headed due west to visit Mom and Dad (Bud and Eunice Williams) for another dose of stockmanship from the “man!”

We spent a whirlwind week across the lower midwest/south from home to Ashland, Kansas to Monticello, Arkansas (with a little dip down into Louisiana so Tina could cross off another state visited) to Bowie, Texas and then back home again!

Richard and I speaking to a group of 42 attendees.

Here’s most of the group!

Here’s Richard at our full day school in Ashland, KS presenting to about 60 attendees. The school was sponsored by the Clark County Farm Bureau Association. It was a really great group!
We are excited to be traveling to Ashland, Kansas on put on a full day school on April 28, and then we will head SE to Monticello, Arkansas to put on another full day school on May 1. If you are anywhere near either school and want to attend, click on the link on the city name to see how to register.

We spoke in Greenville, Missouri (just north of Poplar Bluff in the SE area of the state) today. What a joy it is to spread the word to folks (of all ages!) who are genuinely interested in learning!

Here’s Richard getting the projector set just right before we gave a three hour talk in Monroe City, Missouri. Steve Yates, Adult Ag Leader Teacher, had us come up and speak to his group of interested ranchers and hog farmers.

Before we spoke, we all ate a great meal prepared by JoLynn Yates, Steve’s wife (far right).
